As a subject the Sociology department was
introduced in H. S. in 1986. After that as a department in U.G. Programme it
was established in 1992.Since then the department has offered both major and
non-major course till 2021. From 2019 the CBCS course is implemented with
Honours Course. The department has been providing not only academic guidance to
the students but also making them better human being and citizens. The founder
teacher of this department was Mr. Rajen Bhuyan. Later he was assisted Dulumoni
Bora and Rashmirekha Borgohain. In 2022 Rajen Bhuyan has resigned due to better
job opportunity. The faculty of the department consist of young and
enthusiastic teachers’ committed to
creating a democratic academic culture. At present it has four permanent
teachers with a wide range of interests of spealization . Roshmi Rekha
Borgohain, Uttam Nath, Ruplekha Devi(HoD) and Dr. Himanta Pratim Borgohain. The
faculties are always being dedicated and sincere to their duties and
responsibilities in academic, curricular and co-curricular activities.
Facilities:
The department has a separate building
including teachers’ common room and two classrooms. So, the students can easily
communicate with the teachers. It also provides a departmental library facility
that they can borrow books according to their need. Two toilets with running
water attached with the department specially for male and female. The drinking
water facility is also available in the department for both teacher and
student.
